GAUTENG DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Sportstec has worked closely with the Gauteng Department of Education, to implement a programme that can be scaled institutionally, with specific focus being on the wellness of learners. The programme included a drive for life skills/ life orientation, as well as the support of physical activity.
The strategy has been designed to reach 375 schools in the initial stage, increasing to 800+ and it is an integrated approach supporting Life Orientation and Life Skills curriculum objectives, as well as extra-curricular objectives, through the support, empower and thrive components of the programme.
The key foci of the programme are the physical, mental, emotional and social development of the learner. GOE has seen the value of the programme and have aimed to procure additional funds to support the further roll-out of the strategy. The collaboration has ensured a continuity in conceptual thinking between the curricular and extra-curricular outcomes of the GOE and has fostered a continuum of learner and athlete development.
