Based in the beautiful rural community of Geluksburg, KwaZulu-Natal, the St Charles College Grade 10 Extension Programme is an integrated educational programme that once again delivered.
The ‘Sport to Life’ approach reinforced life skill elements of the programme and provided a unifying philosophy and vocabulary for the programme. Other opportunities for the learners included building ‘Cultural Capital’, exposure to the harsh reality of social inequality in our society, thought around developing a ‘social conscience’, creating and nurturing an understanding that privilege comes with / requires responsibility and creating social awareness through site visits to the homesteads.
The learners participated in a meal in a rural Zulu homestead and had a once in a life-time camping experience centred on outdoor self-sufficient living by making fires and cooking their dinners. A highlight was also the long hike up to the summit of a mountain. Not even the rain and mud could dampen a highly successful trip that saw the Grade 10s rise together as one. St Charles cannot wait to see them in the Upper School and as leaders of their College.
St Charles took this opportunity to thank the amazing ambassadors of Geluksburg for their time and effort with the learners, and last but not least, thanked the SCC staff who gave of their time so willingly for our learners.
