JOURNEY TO EMPLOYMENT

Sportstec have conceptualised and are currently implementing a employability programme aimed at using sport as a vehicle to identify entry level employees for various market segments within South Africa. The Intervention is aimed at high school learners meeting the criteria and objective of both the Life Orientation and Physical Education National CAPS curriculum.

YOUNG HEROES PROGRAMME

Sportstec have set up Young Heroes Centres of Excellence nationally (in nine provinces) in partnership with Department of Basic Education and the MRP Foundation.

These centres have aimed to showcase ‘best implementation’ practice for school physical education, school sport and school leagues. Many of the finding and resources from these Centres have been used by Department of Basic Education as official resources to assist with systemic growth of physical education and school sport.

The programme is designed to capacitate schools to set up systems and structures to deliver physical education and school sport as well as empower educators to deliver sustainable physical education over a 100 day model. Both practical skills (the how?) and theoretical skills (the why?) are implemented to increases educator confidence and competence through mentoring and workshops.

The Young Heroes methodology has been designed to be scaled at between R4 -R8 per learner per month depending on variations. Sportstec are currently looking at expanding this model with MRP in 2018 to approximately 240 schools at a cost of R2.15 per learner per month.

The Young Heroes Programme has recently been awarded a global International Partnership Network (IPN) award for partnership in health

MR PRICE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUES

Sportstec have set up leagues nationally with the main objective of assisting Department of Basic Education in creating a blue print for structuring and setting up sustainable school leagues.

The leagues are designed to encourage positive youth development rather than participation in risky behaviour such as gang related activities, drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancy and improves social interaction amongst youth in marginalized communities.

VALUES IN EDUCATION

In partnership with MRP Foundation and the Department of Basic Education, Sportstec have innovated methodologies to raise the overall status of Life Orientation (including Life Skill Development and Physical Education) by creating ‘value systems’ in school through the introduction of physical education and our 6 Sport2Life skills
